| Qualifications For Membership Any man of age eighteen years or over, who is a lineal descendant of an ancestor who supported the war for American Independence is eligible for membership. The Patriot may have fought in the military and or militia, provided supplies to the American forces, served in a political office or similar acts. What is the Sons of the American Revolution Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). The SAR is a historical, educational, and patriotic non-profit, United State 501(c)3, corporation that seeks to maintain and extend * the institution of American freedom * an appreciation for true patriotism * a respect for our national symbols * the value of American Citizenship * the unifying force of e pluribus unum that has created, from the people of many nations, one nation and one people. The SAR is a "lineage" society. This means that each member has traced their family tree back to the point of having an ancestor who supported the cause of American Independence during the years 1774 - 1783. SAR members include fifteen presidents of the United States, Brigadier, Lieutenant and five star generals, presidents of several colleges and universities, ambassadors, and members of the Supreme Court, the U.S. Senate and the U.S. Congress. Members include small businessmen, doctors, lawyers, school teachers, CPAs, elected local, state, and federal officials, and government employees, all of whom have a deep affection for America its heritage and institutions. The Wiregrass Chapter Sons of the American Revolution was chartered in 1992. Today the chapter has grown to more than fifty members with numerous members holding state offices and committee chairmanship both past and present. Activities in the communities of the Wiregrass area include ROTC Awards in the High Schools, Roy Shoffner Good Citizenship Award to High School Juniors, Patriot grave location and marking as well as an active Color Guard known as "The Wiregrass Minutemen". The Wiregrass Chapter holds meeting at 11:30 on the third Thursday of the month at the historic Rawls Hotel in Downtown Enterprise, Alabama.
