DIXON, JEREMIAH—was born in 1764 in Pitt County, North Carolina. He alleged that he volunteered in 1778
and served at various times with the North Carolina Troops under Captain George Falconer, Captain Thomas
Armstrong, Captain Anthony Sharp, Major Reading Blount, Major Thomas Donoho, and Colonel Archibald Lytle,
also under Colonel William Washington and Colonel Henry Lee.  He fought in the Battles of Brier Creek in
Georgia and Eutaw Springs and Dorchester in South Carolina.  He was discharged at Salisbury, North
Carolina.  He served as a private for a total of 18 months.

During service Jeremiah Dixon was a resident of Pitt County, North Carolina. He lived there until 1815, when he
moved to Alabama, where he lived for the remainder of his life in Covington County.

Jeremiah Dixon applied for a pension on March 25, 1834, but died before the evidence was completed. Pension
Certificate No. 33171, was issued September 16, 1835 to his surviving heirs; rate $40 per annum; ending July
26, 1835; act of June 7, 1832; Mobile, Alabama Agency.  Jeremiah Dixon died July 26, 1835, in Conecuh River
Community, Covington County, Alabama. The surviving children of the veteran and his widow, Elisabeth, who
were paid the pension to which the veteran was entitled at death were Seth P., Rufus Wiley, Jeremiah II,
Elizabeth Diamond, and John B. Dixon.  Elizabeth Dixon, Jeremiah’s widow, died June 15, 1840, in Conecuh
River Community, Covington County, Alabama.  

Jeremiah Dixon married August 10, 1785, in Pitt County, North Carolina, Elisabeth Goff (abt. 1768 - June 15,
1840), possibly a daughter of Thomas and Tomsin (Mathis) Goff.  Children:
Seth P., born December 8, 1788;
Mary, born April 1790;
Elizabeth L., born May 26, 1793 and died abt. 1854; married Reubin C. Diamond, Sr.
Sophrina (Saphronia), born August 23, 1795;
Rufus Wiley, born November 17, 1797;
Jeremiah “Jerk,” born January 5, 1801;
John Bonaparte, born May 10, 1804.

Jeremiah served as a PVT. In Capt. Sharp's Company, 10th Reg. Under Gen. WM.
Washington and Henry "Light Horse Harry " Lee, the father of Robert E. Lee, in the
Continental Army of N.C. from 1778 to 1781.
